Default Fished with Jfranovich today 7/25

Highlights:
12 hours fishing.
95 miles on the boat.
30 gallons gas.
5 flounder, 1 speck, 1 red.

We were fishing mutha's. We did not give up easy.
We fished a spot to the West. On the way back, we say an aluminum boat bow sticking out the water in the ICW. About to call the Sheriff's Dept. and they showed up. When we finished fishing we saw the LDWF who said the boat took on water and sank. He walked back in on the levee. He sank while night fishing.

Another highlight, Jfranovich got seasick on Big Lake. Water looked smooth like a mirror. He didn't upchuck, but said it was in his throat.

Funny highlight. Jfranovich decided to throw a dead shrimp under a cork. When he chunked it, the bait went to the left and the cork went to the right.

I broke a fairly new rod. I wouldn't recommend Allstar Rods. I was hooked in some grass on the bank and when I pulled, the rod snapped.

Jfranovich, did I miss anything?????

We hit the Salt Ditch, Turners Bay, oil wells, Steam Engine, Jetty's(inside and out), beach between jetty's and Holly Beach, Rocks between Holly Beach and Johnson Bayou, Monkey Island, birds in the middle of the lake(when we got there, they sat on the water), Marsh inside the weirs. Did I miss anything?

Finding seagulls sitting on the water can be very good sign
that there are fish in the area----but just not chasing bait right now.

If you find birds, but they break up and leave......keep on fishing.....the fish have not left the area. The fish may move some and if you keep trying, you can sometimes locate them again.

If the Gulls are sitting on the water.....they are waiting for the fish to chase the bait back up to the surface. You just have go give the spot a little while to see what happens.

When I cleaned the fish, all of them had an empty stomachs. Empty... They must have been hungry.

My wife and I ate the redfish and the speck for breakfast this morning, fried. We didn't have any fish fry in the house, but I found some Zataran hush puppy mix in the cabinet that neither of us knew was in there. Don't k now how old it was, but I was desperate and naked, and I wasn't going to the store.
I battered them in the hush puppy mix and they came out crispy and pretty good. The mix had some onion flavor and also a sweet flavor. I didn't care for the sweet taste too much, but it was still good.

P.S.
I did not see Jfranovich pullin on "W"'s 5 incher. Honest.....

Update: I filled up the boat Wed. and it was actually 24 gallons used in the 95 mile trip. When I said 30 gallons, I was figuring 1/2 on the fuel gauge on a 60 gallon tank.

We also ate 2 of the big flounder today, the 2 largest ones fed 4 of us. Broiled them and grilled 3 lbs. of huge shrimp I got from a friend in Cameron yesterday.

Don't get much betta dan dat...
