![]() Went south after that and worked some birds with specks and white trout causing the ruckus. The wind was blowing pretty hard so we started with plastics and were catching quite a few with about 40% throwbacks. I could not stand it anymore and decided to throw my brand new, straight from the brand new academy in Lafayette, translucent shad colored, sharp hook toting, Skitterwalk. After SaltyShaw told me to throw it till my arm fell off, I figured wind or no wind I needed to try. Was I ever glad I did. It would take them 3 or 4 hits to grab it sometimes in those waves but what a blast! Quality went up bigtime compared to what we were catching. My partner, Rockfish, ask if I had another and he proceeeded to catch his first ever trouts on topwater in his life! That is very cool. We ended up with 26 specks and 3 nice reds. We also each caught our first seagulls. Five gulls actually scooped up our baits off the water and tried to fly away with em. Thats a first for me. I have had them hover over my topwaters before but never actually pick them up. I think this color was so realistic they couldn't stand it. The Academy did not have the colors that a bunch of you guys suggested so I got the one I thought might work. Thanks to all who gave the topwater feedback and especially SaltyShaw, Gerald and cduhon for your advice yesterday. I wish you could have seen my buddies face when those trout starting hitting his Skitterwalk. Priceless! |

I will definitely tie the loop knot. I have used a king sling knot before that is really good. In fact, I am going tie it on right now and throw it in the pond and check it out. Maybe one of my bass will like it too.

When I buy a new Top water bait, I add a split ring to it to give it more action in the water.
