I have had both, I have Direct right now. In my opinion they are both close to the same, I think Dish has a better DVR program and that direct has slightly better clarity and channel options. Stay away from AT&T Uverse for TV if you are into really clear HD.
As far as rain is concerned we almost never have an issue and if we do it is a short term problem. It has rained here in houston for 24 hours and we never lost our signal. |

Agree with ckinchen on that ... I currently have Dish, some weather fade during very severe weather, but usually not a problem, hate Direct, cannot stand their customer service...

I got direct tv.... If it rains or clouds or wind we lose service.
Technicians have come out 2 times in 12 months and "adjusted the dish" No improvement. Customer service is crap. But when service works it's good. Great picture quality & loads of movies. I can order off my iPhone via txt so that cool. |

I have Dish. Dish is cheaper than than DirecTV as long as you stick with basic programming. Adding DVRs etc., both will be about the same price. I only lose signal in a heavy rain. In a medium rain, I always have a signal. HD programming is a must.

I've had both and I thought dish was a bit better. It didn't seem to go out in the rain as much. I don't think there is a big difference between them.
