Today it was too windy and rough to fish offshore. I had a doctor from Ca. that was here and had all offshore fishing trips canceled. She told me she just wanted to fish. I told her I would give her a day of catching. We confirmed things and I met her at 7:00 am in not so nice weather conditions. I had Capt. John from the Cougar as my deckhand. All we could do was tuck into east bay. This area usually has a good amount of nice lane snapper. The water was a lot cleaner than normal and we could not buy a lane snapper. The red snapper gave us constant action all day. Being in shallow water they all went back well without any venting required.
The sea conditions even in the shelter of the bay warrented a sit down fishing type of day. It was very hard to stand and fish. We had a catching type of day anyway We caught one croaker that went just under 4 pounds on the boga. One of the guys at the dock mistook it for a redfish. It would have been a good red if it was.
The highlite of the day was this nice 19 pound redfish that got another chance to breed after the photo op. She said none of the ones she got the day before compared to it. Her PB. redfish.
Although mostly silver sea trout we brought in 62 trout and 3 croakers for a total of 65 fish in the box We caught and threw back just as many other fish and we cut up 4 or 5 white trout for bait. We used squid, shrimp, pogies, and white trout for bait. Capt. John was kept busy just supplying bait and unhooking fish.
It was nice having Capt John with me today and I was lucky to be able to get out as far as I did. Good thing she did not get sea sick. I think she was too busy catching to think about being sick. Although drizzle all day and uncomfortable fishing conditions we still had good time. It was a great day.
Life is Good!
Fishing is not a matter of life or death. It's more important than that.
