Cheers Grand Isle 4/27 - 4/29

Made my first ever trip to the island this past weekend. We pulled a camper and stayed at Island house RV Park, nice location, quiet and very friendly. Winds blew all weekend which made surf fishing a little difficult. On this trip we had 4 guys and no boat, we decided to explore the island and do surf fishing. Fished the side of the road at some of the bridges on Hwy 1 and a few spots on the side of the road. Managed to catch some nice redfish on the side of the road. Crabs everywhere. It was nothing to put a piece of shrimp on the hook drop it next to a rock or boulder and a crab would come out from underneath. Those reds really liked that cracked crab. Sunday morning we went and waded the surf by Bridgeside by the jetties and had an awesome time even though the waves were rolling. We used dead shrimp and caught a huge variety of fish. Redfish, specks, croaker, black drum, sheepshead, channel mullet, white trout, flounder. Amazing that you can wade out 30 yards from the beach and cast 20 feet from where your standing and catch all these fish. We brought a wagon and that was the ticket to transport all of our stuff onto the beach. The highlight of the trip was Sunday night around 9 we went to fish the fishing pier by Bridgeside Marina and there was a couple older gentlemen fishing with long jigging poles with homemade sacalait jigs and they were slinging fish onto the bridge one after another. We all lost fish while trying to pull them up. The trout were averaging 2-4 lbs. with some 5-6 mixed in. I have never seen so many trout surfacing the top of the water like that. Awesome site to see. Bridgeside marina is very nice and is well stocked. Learned alot while in Grand Isle and now I can try to prepare for our trip at the beginning of June.

Sounds like good times there. One of my favorite places to fish, lots of variety. Going down July 4-8 can't wait.

The surf fishing is fun fun
