I like to work it slow as well. I seem to get hit by more big girls that way.

If one misses mine I'll stop it for bout a second then they usually kill it on the next twitch. I love that.

When it hits the water I walk it as fast as I can and then slow it down to a moderate walk. I don't pause unless I have a missed blow up and only pause for a few seconds and back at it

There are times when it's difficult for me to stop thinking like a bass fisherman, but does anyone ever through top water prop baits...like a Devil Horse or 4" magnum Torpedo?

I used to throw a Mirrolure 5M prop topwater back in the day in the surf. I would take the front prop off and just leave the back one on. It was a trick my Paw Paw taught me and it seemed to work. Usually it was a chrome/black back or green back. Great for days when there's a little chop on the water and the waves aren't slick. I still have some in the tackle box. I may break em out when I hit the water this summer. Mirrolure is making a new 10MR prop bait that has the Mirrodine body shape. May have to look into one of those too.

some of the biggest fish ive caught have been on a pause working a tw .

anyways i like to generally work it slow unless im working it through a school of mullet i like to rip it threw em then once i get on the fringe of the school ill slow it down. i find that a school of mullet is so "busy" that ripping it through the trout sees it and gets intersted then has a chance to eat it once you draw it out from under the school

The black top orange/bone bottom Rattleur! Heck of a top water bait. Some times I would remove the back hook and prop then add 2ft of mono with 1/8oz lead head/salty grub. Heck of a setup for the shallow reefs. They would hit the jig or the top water lure 1/2 the time....

I retrieve top waters slowly in muddy waters and speed the retrieve in clearer...

Same with me on the pause. Its not for long at all just enough to make it look injured and appealing it works for me but like I said ONLY if they miss it if they don't continuos movement always works fast at first then slower and steady. Bone colored skitterwaljs never fail me mr paul
