Two die in boating accident. Y'all be careful.
I feel sad for these men and their families. The cause of death and cause of the accident have not been released yet, but the two dead men were not wearing personal flotation devices. My wife has asked me for few things regarding my hunting and fishing pursuits, but always wearing a personal flotation device while on a boat is one of them. (She's also asked that I don't hunt dangerous game). I like to think that she loves me and is concerned for my personal safety. We've also discussed the fact that wearing a PFD sets a better example for our children, who are presently required by law to wear PFDs but at some point will no longer be. I know sometimes in LA, it is just plain hot, and it would seem much more comfortable to ditch the PFD. I also sometimes feel like a dufus or obviously inexperienced boater when tooling up to the dock wearing a PFD. "W" probably thought I was a dufus for showing up to our fishing trip wearing a PFD. I also felt uncool with the PFD when LDWF checked our fishing licenses yesterday. But most of the time, I forget about the PFD right after I put it on and don't even really notice it unless I try and access a shirt pocket it is covering up or until I sit back in the car and I still have it on. PFDs are cool because they save lives. Complete sobriety is also cool when operating a boat or even when on a boat in complex situations combining fishing with wave action. I find fishing to be great fun, but a lot of things are going on at once on a boat, and I couldn't imagine enjoying it as much while drinking. Sorry if I sound preachy here, but it would break my heart to lose a member of Salty Cajun in this kind of accident. Your boat safety plan need not be the same as mine, but please pay attention to those nagging thoughts of things you need to be more careful about to keep it safe out there. Also, please pay attention to things your wife has asked you to consider safety wise. The Bible says that a man's body does not belong to him alone, but also to his wife, so take care of that body for your wife and family's sake.
