Made a trip up north this morning (around saltwater barrier) cause the salinity charts have been showing the salinity level is on the rise so I decided to give it a try. Started with top water the bite was on with nothing but 12 to 13 inch trout nothing bigger. Ended up tagging and releasing 17 dink trout and wanted to try and find some trout with some size so I switched to another style of fishing which Jchief showed me a couple of days ago and I don’t remember what he called it but I found reds and that made my day. Ended up tagging and releasing 8 reds all being at and over 24 inches. Then just like a light switch the tide stopped moving and the bite turned off.
The water was clear and I could see the bottom in about 2 to 3 foot of water. The water temp was about 87 to 88 degrees and the tide was coming in. The top water used was the saltwater clown being thrown on the Calcasieu Xtreme rod which has become my new favorite rod. I know the salinity gauge said about 3 to 4 this morning but it is turning on. I was on the water by 0600 and back at the stall at 1030. |
