shrimpin questions

I have never been shrimpin, and can't make sense of the regulations on lwf website. I will be going to biglake, and try these wiers I hear so much about. Can anyone tell me how much you can keep? do you ice em down right when you catch them? What's the run down on something like that?

5 gallon bucket full inside the wiers is the limit. I usually drop a few cubes on em if they're not running good. But if they are runnin a just dump em on ice when I'm done. Make sure you leave them in your bucket until you get on the lake side. Don't want to get checked at the gate and have to squeeze em all back in there.

It is good to bring some walmart bags to keep shrimp in and keep them on ice in a ice chest while you are cast netting. Bring a five gallon bucket to measure the shrimp you have in the walmart bags. You dont want to leave the shrimp out in the heat for too long.

I have an old pot that I fill with water and put in my freezer to make block ice. It just fits inside a 5 gallon bucket. I keep that big chunk of ice on top of my shrimp in the bucket until the bucket gets full. A chunk of ice that big will take all day to melt even when it's hot.

In the area near Grand Bayou the East Cove unit boundry is a couple hundreds yards west of the wier structure. The refuge boundry is where the lake boundry was years ago.

There was a small strip of land on the north side of Grand Bayou that formed the bank of the lake, that got washed away by Rita. This where the refuge boundry starts.
