We need to know the what, when and where.
As far as owning a gun, if you can clear a NICS check, you can own a gun. No papers, registration is voluntary in the state of Louisiana (who would do that?), you are only required to register class 3 weapons (suppressors, machine guns, Short barreled rifle, etc.)
Certain public Wildlife Management Areas DO restrict what kind of gun you can carry while hunting on WMA property. Often times a handgun over .22lr is not allowed without a Concealed handgun Permit.
For your hunting license, you can take a course online and take a 4 hour class where you watch a couple videos and go shoot a couple of clays.
