Default Blackjack Prop

Looking for a recommendation for an all around prop for a Blackjack running a 300HP (4.2) Yamaha. I know there are quiet a few Blackjack owners out there but most I have read on this forum are running the 250SHO. Any advice appreciated.

I would try a 23p yamaha Pro XL. A buddy of mine, is running this prop on a 24ft Yellowfin, with a 350, and the boat is responding awesome. If not try a 23 tempest plus, they run awesome on just about any bayboat.

Your dealer should have some data on props for that set up, depending on how you will be loaded.

If not, tell us what prop you are running now, WOT rpm, WOT speed, JP setting, JP set back.

I know George Haydel at Metro Boating has had the BJs knocking on 70 with the 300 Verados. He is also a Yam dealer. I would ask him and go from there.

Just a data point for you - I am running a 22 Razor 4 (Mark Croxton prop) on my 24 YF / 300 Yam 4.2L rig and its best WOT speed has been 65.4 lightly loaded. If you are looking for a prop to start with - I would start with a 23 Razor 4 for that BJ, but that's just a blind stab considering the BJ at 22ft 4 inches.

I have come to really like these 4 blades (including the TXP OT4) as they have excellent hole shot, great top end, super stable handling and can be run higher on the transom than the 3 blades.

No need for any PVS holes on the props for the 4.2L motors from my experience.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Bill Kenner should have the prop dialed in already for that motor. I know he does most of his own performance testing and ships the rig with the prop he recommends. I would ask whichever dealer you are using to ask Bill what he recommends for the BJ/300 Yammy setup. I ordered my BJ from Lake Area Marine and it came propped perfectly. I'm running the 250 SHO though.
