I have been using that same type of anchor made by Danforth since 2003. Actually using the same anchor I bought when I purchased my first new bay boat in 2003.
Works great in soft bottoms. Not so great on on hard oyster bottoms. |

Should have got a claw anchor. that style will hold in light current on reefs and muddy bottoms. but when you need to anchor on a reef in fast current (like the pass) they will slip.

No complaining about either one. just a preferance for what I wanted.... the fortress is lighter 4lbs and less of a hassle getting out out of my anchor locker.

I have had a claw and fortress. Fortress fits in my anchor storage and is light and has worked fine so far. I have a heavy chain. Worth the money IMO

I have a 7# fortress with about 6' of chain. It is light and holds the boat well in sand and mud. it is not good in grass or reefs. I also use a Grappler anchor for oyster reefs and I have a cajun anchor for in the marsh.
put a good chain on yours and you will love it. My 7# is not heavy enough for strong current in 40'+ water. I have put the grappler at the front of the chain in those situations. |

I actually saw my anchor yesterday while working on some wiring. It is the fortress brand. I was wondering as I thought it was very light. Anyway, it has lasted forever and worked well for me over the years with a shackle and chain. |
