Dularge/Raccoon Point dinks
Made a trip across Caillou Bay with a nice north breeze behind us after watching a few super-soakers pass to the east. Was looking real good as we anchored on the north side, easy rollers breaking on the beach, tough to see clarity, but hard to imagine it would be unfishable.
Walked over the island, got to the second bar - did try a few casts even before getting wet and immediately started nailing small trout. I'd left the topwater pole (mistake) but they were chewing the double rigged plastics real well, just small fish, about 12 inches but didn't want to keep 12s.
Kept walking trying to find bigger fish and walked myself out of the fish. Ended up keeping two small ones before walking back to boat to get TW pole and join up with podnah who had waded east.
He'd dealt with the infestation on dinks as well, keeping 7. Bone SSJr produced slaps on four consecutive casts and two marginal keepers, but then nothing. Waded about a mile for one fish. Walked back to original spot and hung a keeper, then nothing. Wind had really picked up by then
Frustrating morning, would have hung in for the tide to do its thing if the fish had been bigger. The dinks have dug in on Raccoon Island for a week and a half now. No wonder the bull reds have been tearing it up out there lately.
Still good times, but better days ahead!
