My brother in law went about a month back. No issues and some really good fishing. I went in September a few years back and caught some hawgs. Good time to go.

It's heavily patrolled with gun boats.

From what I hear anyway. Just don't go too deep on Mexican side.

U should be fine. I stay on the roads in south Texas. Advice would be to stay on US side at all times and don't go out after dark. Not worth the risk and the locals from the valley will agree. Other than that you should be fine and O... don t stop or slow down for anyone on the side of road even if its children or lady flagging for help....just keep on trucking

If I went down there...you'd find me beatin' them eastern banks. With 60 miles of 'em...gotta be a fish somewhere.

Just go to Rayburn and leave the Uzi in the truck.
Do you really have to worry about getting robbed/kill on the way there while in the US? F that. I'll just book a trip with "Figure 8" Charters.

I am also gonna be out there in Sept. We mad a trip last year and it was awesome. Didn't get any double digit fish but picked up at least 20-30 fish in the 4-7 lb. range. Its a great place to fish. We fished in Mexico about 90% of the time we were there, just didn't go back deep in the coves.

Talk to the locals and they will tell you areas to avoid. We were told to stay away from the small fish camps on the banks. Some are disguised as fish camps but used by the drug guys. Saw plenty of boats and helicopters patrolling the whole time we were there.

The guy we rented our room from (Speedy Collet) has been fishing the lake for all his life and he gave us all the info we needed. Told us things were not as bad as they were in the past. I will keep going back. Didn't see anything that made me unsafe.
