![]() This report is a little overdo. And kind of a general overview. I have enjoyed meeting and fishing with some great people. And have had a lot of people catch there first yellowfin and there biggest fish ever. Sometimes several times on the same trip. It has been a busy and crazy start of the summer. Every year we have another obstacle to deal with and this year is no different with the late spring and high river we are about three weeks behind schedule. The bait is the one downside we have now and is keeping the big number days down. The bait is easy with the poagies being a easy a pretty quick stop for bait on the way out. The downside is with the high river and very fresh conditions they are living in the 80 plus degree salty water takes there toll on them quickly. Once they turn red they are pretty much worthless. Thankfully for the first part of the summer the blackfin and AJ's along with a bonus yellow or two were a option. That was cheap on fuel and a guaranteed catching trip. It was nice to have the option to give clients. The blackfin have backed off and now we are making the longer runs and making the best out of the baits before thy die. Then running in and picking up our snapper along with a few stray cobia. Overall the fishing is pretty good but some days are better than others. And the other days definitely leave you scratching your head wondering what the heck happened. I guess this has to be a double report now. I had already written up a d ready to post a few weeks ago but the few days off turned into taking care of something else that has been neglected while fishing. The last month or so has come and gone pretty quickly. As expected the red snapper were very willing along with plenty of big mangroves. Part of the fun of snapper fishing at the 7 mile rigs was to see just how many boats could actually squeeze into such a small area. It was pretty intense at times when the current was rolling and there were lots of boats. Thankfully it never took more than 20-30 minutes to get a limit. The mangrove snapper towards the end of the season took the slack along with the reds from the tuna that were on the tougher side and what seemed like a million miles out. The tuna bite has been ok but not really on fire but steady which is not tobad. The standard setup has been the Eagle Claw TK-4 and TK-5 hooks in 7/0-9/0 I use the offset style when they are eating funny and the no offset when they are not. And these are snelled to 18' of 60lb seaguar. With the right bait this has been the ticket. Of course the hard part of the tuna this year is the bait. One day it's here a d the next it's gone for a week or so. Luckily and I saw this with crossed fingers our bait of choice has finally made its appearance for the summer. If so it should definitely make for some better fishing. I head down on Sunday for the month of July. I will try and be more prompt on my reports for the month of July. Until next time. Capt. Mike |

Welcome to the site Mike.
Sorry about how you got here. I did not know what happened and did not get involved in that fiasco. Some days are better than others. Customers have different expectations. |
