just like trucks, they all make great ones and bad ones. my 250 suzuki, top end came apart $9000 to get it fixed. Got 3 opinions on fixing it mechanics said no. Have a ProXS now. no problems so far, but it only has 170 hours on it.

Belt did break.... Change in like 2mins

Air Compressor only went out because I pulled Casey in from offshore (19miles out) for 5 hrs and I still made it back to landing (never left me)

So yes it has been a great motor

Just saying you said it never left you...what would you have done if you didn't have a belt.

I have a friend that has a 2 yr old 225. So far he had to replace the lower unit, it exploded offshore, (literally fire and all) rebuilt it then a few trips later the power head blew out again. It's spent more time on the shop then on the water.

I had a 2008 250 pro xs burst into flames while starting it,throwing the motor top 30 feet in air an onto front of my boat. Good reason to carry a fire extinguisher. Motor had 300 hours on it. Mercury would not cover any under warranty. Said it was a "fuel" issue. Always used fuel treatment, had water seperator and had it serviced every year. Will never own another Mercury. Just my experience and opinion.

There are issues among all motors. Just bad luck sometimes I guess.

I have an 11' 250 ProXS and absolutely no problems, I have had 2 guide friends put 350 hours on both of their motors in a year and a half with no issues.

One thing I do is take care of the maint. and I am very proactive, I use my stuff but maintain it very well. The older models had some issues , just like a lot of the NEWER other brands.

To be honest over the years I have had issues with all of them and I have OWNED all of them including an etec etc.

What kind of boat is it on? Must have a hell of a freeboard to justify an 11' motor!

The older Optis had 2 main issues . Coils and compressors . They started getting coils from either china or mexico and had failures left and right. They have since switched back and the issue is resolved. The compressor was redesigned in the last year I think. 06 is about when the coil deal started... Unless you get a good enuf deal or you can verify all coils are the new ones.. Be careful on this one. If it were a 2010 or newer I would say go for it ,
