Default Companies that Might Hire Civil Engineers

My brother is a civil engineer with 25 years of experience. He has his PE license and is a specialist in concrete and rigging. He works for Bechtel but they have been furloughed. He is concerned about getting back to work. He wants to keep his options open just in case things don't work out well with this gov't shutdown. What are the major companies in Louisiana that might use a civil engineer?

I know my cousin works/worked for a company called Forte&Tablada (sp?). They are in Baton Rouge I think.

That's all they do there.

The company I work for has been hiring lately. I don't work for our engineering division, but can't hurt to put a resume in at Fenstermaker in Lafayette.

Civil engineers depend a good bit on government work. Even though he was working for a private company, gubmint not paying dey bills no mo. Unless you on low income, social security, Obama phones, etc...

To the OP, tell him to look at smaller local companies, ask around see who is building bridges, roads, subdivisions, etc... The builders have to work with civil engineers for all of the above. I'm sure he already knows all of this though.

Bdv2642, you are absolutely right. He got furloughed because he works at the Savannah River Site in S.C. It's a huge government run facility. I didn't think he could get furloughed either, but he did.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I will pass them along to him.

There are some pretty good firms in Lafayette.

Fugro & Chance
Fenstermaker
Huvall & Associates
Neel-Schaffer
T. Baker Smith
Kimley Horne
HNTB
Mader Engineering
Comeaux Engineering
Domingue & Associates

I know I am leaving some out. Those are just off of the top of my head.

I am not sure what what rigging is. The companies I have listed all have PE's working for them that do concrete road design, embankments, foundations etc.....These companies also manage construction projects.

Might try the La DOTD. They say they have a hiring freeze, but this isn't necessarily so for professional Engineer positions. He might could work in the construction section.

PM me if you need any specific help.
