Default Which guide is patient with a women fishing?

I am wanting to book a trip this Monday Nov 4 and take my son and wife fishing. I would like someone who has patience with a novice fisherman.

I have book trips in the past and they really did not work out well with the wife. Any advice would be appreciated.

All guides on that lake are patient enough. It's their job. They do it everyday. I've had plenty of guides and not one was impatient

There's a few that I've brought my wife with that were courteous... I was more impatient with her than they were.

I've taken a lot of guided trips with my wife and daughters over the years, so I know what you mean. Unfortunately, W is the only Big Lake guide I've fished with.

The guides that have treated the women and children well tend to be willing and even eager to use live (or fresh) bait and to be happy enough letting them catch things other than specks if that is what the day is giving you. A good guide wants to make his customers happy, and if that means catching spanish mackerel, sheepies, redfish, etc., then that's what he'll do even if it means he won't have a photo with a limit of trout to post to his FaceBook page.

Inexperienced anglers don't do as well targeting specks with artificial lures because this often requires some proficiency in casting, either distance or accuracy or both, and less experienced anglers aren't as good at this. On the other hand, just about anyone can effectively fish bait on the bottom or under a popping cork.

Guides balk at bait for various reasons: elitism, cost, convenience, etc. But talk to them and let them know the experience level and interests of your crew. Almost any guide will claim on the phone a willingness to accommodate your needs, so you have to read between the lines a bit.

I also have better experiences with guides who wait until a day or two before the trip to confirm a meeting place (boat ramp) until they have the best available info on where the fish are biting. Guides who always, always, always fish out of the same place are making you come to them and may be saving money on gas, rather than working hard to put you on the fish. I've been very pleased with guides who simply say, "It ain't happening near my usual launch, let's meet on the other side instead."

It depends on what you are fishing for. I've used the guides out of CoCo Marina for years, taking customers out for mainly reds and specks. These guys have always treated everyone like they were their best friend. Some of the clients I've taken don't know the difference between a fishing rod and a baseball bat, but still have a great time. They have fairly big boats, and can't really fish the marsh well for specks this time of year, but will put you on reds until your arms hurt. During late spring and early summer when the specks are further out, they will load up. I went out with them this past weekend and we had a great time.

I would think there are quite a few city slickers that never fished before and then get drunk the night before at the casinos are much worse to deal with than a novice woman and child. At least the women and children are listening and having fun

This would be my choice also. Fished with him with a 6 year old girl in the boat. She asked Sam 1001 questions and he answered everyone of them with a smile. All while helping her cast and keep her on the fish. He is a first class guy.

So your saying that all of us guides who work out of the same launch or dock everyday are just lazy and not worth using ?

That's what I got.

Hey math geek, do you see a casino willing to get up and move because they're trying hard to take your money? How about a McDonald's or a grocery store?

Its easy and convenient to keep a boat in a stall. Gear boxes, fish cleaning station, a place to hang a banner and advertise....come on dude

So you are saying that there are never occasions where you would most likely provide a better fishing experience to your clients by trailering your boat to a different launch 45-90 minutes away? The best possible fishing experience is always available from your home launch? Come on man, I know better!

I've appreciated the occasions where guides were willing to trailer their boats to get us closer to the action rather than beating us on a long, rough ride across open water or piling on lots of excuses why fish couldn't be caught on the relatively calm water accessible from their home port.

I've also appreciated when they've simply said, "They ain't biting over here right now, let me hook you up with a buddy on the other side who is catching fish."

The fish aren't always biting everywhere, and a good guide should be willing to either take the clients to where the fish are biting, or admit the situation and put the client with a guide who has access to water where they are biting.

Me and u agree a lot but on this cant say I do

Because i consider myself a good fisherman but if Big Lake sucks im not going to go to Sabine to fish

Im a big Lake guide and if i cant catch fish on my home lake they just not biting

But they might be jumping in the boat in Sabine but Sabine has there own guides for that lake
