A couple weeks ago I made my yearly duck hunt to SE Kansas. We drove through that bad ice storm and by the time we arrived, every drop of water in the area was frozen solid. It was tough to pattern the birds with no water around and thousands of acres of corn fields. We had one great hunt out of 4 days but we had to sit there all day to kill. We got set up in the layout blinds at 9:00 a.m. and didn't fire a shot til 4:00. At the end of shooting time 5:06 we had 30 ducks on the ground.
Last week I got to spend some more time with Capt. Dennis Marshall on the Becuna. We had a 4 man, 3 day trip to the Biloxi Marsh. While the customers fished out the their bay boat, Capt. Dennis and I snuck off in the skiff and caught our limits of trout each day, making it back to the boat in time to make lunch for the crew. The more I go on these types of trips, the more spoiled I get. Check out

Friday I jumped the state of Mississippi and settled into the ole stompin' grounds in Bayou Dularge. I knew an area where 100 boats had been fishing and limiting out each day, but I wanted to check out a quiet area I hadn't been to since last month. Sure enough it was on like donkey kong right after daylight. Didn't take long to complete the box of 100 trout with the Maronge family.
Saturday I figured going back to that spot would be a sure thing, however, the 25 mph SW winds had the water muddy and the fish didn't want a thing to do with us. Ended up with 5 trout and a red and called it a day at 10:00. That's the fishin' stories of the month!...until next time...deuces
