Headknocker A little "Oh Sh*t" moment

Headed out to work yesterday around 6:45am in the snow/ice/sleet/hail mix. Boss said to make an "attempt"..... Drive from my house to work is 30+ miles. I made it 10 miles on my "attempt" before I wiped out on a patch of ice in the road. 4 pine trees stopped me. Didnt hit them hard enough to deploy air bags and was able to get out of the ditch without a tow. Got police report filled out and called in to work in less than an hour. Walked away with seatbelt burn and a bruised left forearm from the steering wheel. Hit the tree around 15mph.Was back at the house by 8:30am. Here are some pics of the damage. The road was so slick where I wiped out that the police officer that was responding to the call actually hit the same patch of ice and got completely sideways on the 4 lane, hit the median and did a 360 into the other side of the 4 lane. He then came back around and worked my incident. Man what a day. COREY----------Where ya at on some replacement parts ?? Need all new Lights, Grille, Bumper, and hood.

I was just thinking about this situation... did he ticket you? I don't think you deserve one but it also makes me curious about his situation. Under most situations a person in your predicament would receive a failure to maintain control ticket.... what did he do in this situation?

no ticket... just filled out an accident report

He put on accident report that ice was a factor in me "failing to maintain control"

I never received a ticket. If this is the case. There was 60+ wrecks on hwy 171 from rosepine to Ft. Polk.....

We'll talk one day next week and, I'll get you lined up with a company I use that has a depot in Lake Chuck. I think I can get it to where you can buy direct with cash on my account.

Is your work gonna pay for the damage? In my opinion that was a bad move by them to make you "attempt" to come to work. In those situations it shouldn't be risked period.

Glad you are OK, if it ever happens again, make only a feeble attempt. HaHa!
It's amazing how much damage a low speed collision with a tree can do.

Glad you are ok. It is surprising how much damage even low speed impacts cause.

I was thinking the same thing....Is that those fancy bright blue headlights? You would think they would surely melt the ice.

I am developing a driving safety course for my company using information from vehicle incident investigations. Do you mind giving some specifics? What was veh. speed at time you hit ice, what was visibility, was it concrete, or asphalt, straight or in curve, hills or level? on a bridge or not. Not trying to be nosy, but again would like to help others avoid such accidents or worse in the future. Thanks.
