Powerpole for VBay

This seems like one of those decisions that you should make based on the area you fish, so the question goes out to VBay fishermen. Like most of you, I'm fishing around the point, working the banks, or hitting the reefs outside of the pass. Typically 3-6 feet of water with mud or shell bottom. I want to buy a powerpole. I'm pretty set on going name brand Powerpole, simply because I hear that they will always replace it if it breaks. But if somebody has a great alternative they want to share, okay.

Real questions here: Sportsman, pro, or blade?; 8 foot or 10 foot?

I know, the more expensive is always better, except you might have paid more money for something that didn't provide much more benefit.

The pros use the blade... I probably would buy the most expensive one too if it was a sponsor's money.

And longer is always better, except you've got an extra foot of pole sitting at the back of the boat when you're not using it.

So really, anybody who has one, what are the must haves and the things to avoid? Where is it good to save a little money and where should you not cheap out? Thanks folks.

8 foot blade, for me in VBAY, and have a plow anchor to complement if needed, however last weekend used a PVC pipe with Blade to keep boat sideways, so kids and wife could cast to the fish. I do a lot of trolling banks for red and always have someone on the back of the boat, the 8 ft sticks up no higher than motor. Sometimes wish had 10' but not often, if I ever have to replace will prob go with 10' blade.

You don't have a problem with stirring up the water in your fishing hole? It seems that the IPilot is fine for a really calm day, but the trolling motor would cycle on and off constantly with a little wind. I could be wrong. Anybody have a thought on that? I've got the Minn Kota with a foot pedal, and the conversion to Ipilot is less than $300.

Usually I only anchor lock in water too deep for my blade I don't find it to spook em too much. I prolly wouldn't want to anchor lock in 3-5' of water.

Many people have brought that up. I have caught fish "trout" 1-5 feet from the running trolling motor when the bite is good.

Also, the motor doesnt run as much as you would think when it is in anchor mode.

I got the ipilot, and decided to wait on the power pole. Glad I waited, but thats just me.

if you just need to convert yours, do yourself a favor, its worth the $300.

Just put a 10' blade used it today for the first time love it.

Have been using the New Talon 12 footer with no problems. This one has the soft bottom mode and has worked perfect.

10' blade. would you buy a new shot gun that didn't shoot 3 1/3" shells? You don't always need it but glad you have it when you do. But find myself using anchor lock on my trolling motor a lot more than my power pole. It doesn't hold my boat all that well on a hard bottom if there's a decent current. If the waters moving your trolling motors not going to bother the fish.

I personally prefer the shotguns that shoot 3 1/2" over 3 1/3".
