This morning we dodged a rainstorm and hit the gulf where it was flat calm with beautiful conditions. On location, beautiful green water with good falling tide appeared quite fishy. The shrimp and birds started to make an appearance and quickly abandoned us. Sharks and mackerel were creating a ruckus chasing trout smooth out the water. We hooked several today. On with the trout. These fish will boggle the mind some days leaving you scratching your head. With the previous night's moon big and bright, I had counted on them being stuffed already for breakfast. At first we got good strikes as the few fish biting were fiercely attacking the baits. They were all studs too. From 16-20" we put 27 fish on the cold rocks. Then silence. We took a boat ride to the island and found acres and acres of birds diving. Incredibly, there wasn't a gamefish to be found. Puzzled and dumbfounded. Not sure what those birds were eating but it wasn't trout food. I made the loop around the island stopping several times to fish and rethinking the game plan. I wanted to keep going east but my gut kept saying no. I listened and it was the correct move. Back out west the bite was on. The trout were feeding again but they wanted the bait popped hard and hitting it in the fall. Single rigged Reflexion Ghost Bammer on a 1/4 oz lead colored head caught all the fish. Just before 11:00 we finished up with 100. 8 ft of water, slow falling tide, 360 degrees around the boat. If you didn't twerk it you didn't get a bite. Big thanks to Capt. T Miller for setting up the trip.
