Got to Lake Charles Friday afternoon and decided if make a quick trip to Turners Bay for the afternoon. Much to my dismay I found stiff south winds but went on with my plan. Started off throwing tops along the bank on the north side of cutoff point and ended up just drifting out over the area and caught nothing but Gafftops. Made the run up to Haymark and found a whole bunch of barges that had everything muddied up. Three some matrix shad around the channel marker there and hooked one small trout that came unbuttoned at the boat. Moved up into prien only to find more Gafftops. So I called it quits.
Saturday: I got up early and put in at Hebert's and ran straight to the old jetties and started throwing tops. Water was beautiful and I felt good about it. Two blowups almost right away had me feeling good about the situation. Picked up four trout 2-2.5 pounds then hooked into one real nice one and in my panic to get the net I pulled the hooks out of her mouth. Next cast produced another big blowup and I was ready with the net this time. Came in right at 5 lbs on my boga and is going to be my new official personal best. A family fishing across the rocks from me was lucky enough to witness that show. lol Around that time a shower popped up and I checked my radar and saw that the south bank would be dry. Pulled up to even prettier water there and a school of redfish that were nearly glowing in the beautiful water. They'd disappear and then pop up tailing. Threw my spook at them and the most aggressive gang rush I've ever seen occurred. So mad at it that none of them got it in their mouth the first time but followed it all the way back to the boat. The next time one of them took my bait and broke the line. Retied and the next cast produced a 30" 10 1/2 lber that had been hooked in the belly. I had to follow him around for nearly 30 minutes before boating him then released him to fight another day. Once the rain passed I headed back to the old jetties and picked up a few more trout then called it a day because I was out of water and it was HOT with not a drop of wind. Ended up with 9 trout.
Sunday I woke up early with the same plan. Got there and then realized we had a light north wind. Hit the same program and only had 4 blowups but all connected before it was time to go.
