I've got a suzuki 25 that has some issues. Who should I take it to around Lake Charles? It's been to Lake Area and they didn't fix it, so looking for another shop.

The motor is weak. Poor holeshot and all I can get out of it is 26-27 mph. Running around 4500 rpm. Lake Area said the bottom cylinder wasn't firing due to moisture on the plug. They checked compression and said it was 100 psi on all three cylinders. I got it back and ran it and noticed no difference. I had a 30 yamaha before this and the yamaha was twice the motor this suzuki is. I'm hoping to find somebody that can get this thing lined out. I've heard DHP does good work.

What size boat do you have the 25 pushing?
Is this a used motor or did you buy it new? If used were there any mods done to it by previous owner? How is the motor mounting set up on the boat is it conducive to allow max capability? |

I don't know much history on the motor. I think it has been in some brackish water.
The boat is a 1548 alumaweld flat. I bought the motor used. It's a '94 model. The only thing non-stock is the linkage has been modified to let the carbs open up completely. The motor is on a jackplate. I've played with motor height and trim position but nothing has helped. |

I had a 20 ft. X 36" Weld Craft tunnel hull with a 3 cyl. Zuki. It ran great. No issues.
It just didn't run great with a big load. I ran it for hunting season, with 3 hunters and a dog. For gator season, I ran a 40 Merc. |

Suggest starting at the fuel tank. Make sure fuel is not being restricted, pick-up tube, filter, hose, prime bulb and fuel connector fittings not allowing air to be sucked in.

There's a big difference in displacement between the mercury and suzuki. Took the motor to DHP today. They might work on it today or tomorrow. I'll post what they find. |

Hey Scott, are you related to Brandon Craft from Moss Bluff?

Maybe distantly. I'm from DeRidder/Merryville originally. I think there are some Craft's around Lake Charles we are kin to, but I don't know them.

I've got my boat back at the house. DHP said they didn't think anything was wrong with it. They ran it in the water and said it felt fine, but they didn't gps it. I took it to a buddy that has a neighbor that works on them on the side. The neighbor's been working lots of overtime so he just got to look at it. He misunderstood what we were wanting checked, so he passed an eye on my setup and not the motor. I picked it up yesterday. I was checking some stuff today and decided to make sure all the cylinders were firing. Pulled the top plug wire and the motor died. Did the same thing with the bottom and nothing changed sound or rpm wise. Didn't even stumble. I didn't pull the middle one because my channel locks were shocking me, but I suspect that would kill the motor. I'm going to borrow a compression gauge and check the compression and go from there.
