Default A driving tip that I just learned...

Here's something that you all should know.

In the state of Louisiana, it is legal to pass on a two lane highway in designated areas. We all know that. In order to make a proper, legal pass, the driver passing must use his signal, have his headlights on and BLOW HIS HORN in the process of making the pass. I bet no one knew the last part!

The reason I know this is because I have a client that passed in a passing zone and did everything but BLOW HIS HORN and now, he has been deemed 20% liable for an accident when he passed a man who turned left into him!

Personally, I think it's an unsafe action but, by way of law, it is required. I just wanted to pass this information along so that maybe it will help keep the liability down for someone here.

Good day all and safe driving!

The law "use" to be that if you turned left off of a two lane state highway onto a private drive, the vehicle turning left was to pull to the shoulder of the road(on the right side) and remain there until it was safe to proceed. In other words, if you were turning left off of a two lane road into your driveway and someone was passing you and a collision occured, you were 100% liable.

The law has since changed and is now the way you see it. Blame it on lawyers buddy!

Lawyers always "fix" everything for us! Just some info that I got and figured it would be good to pass along. It cost this young man several thousand dollars out of pocket!

When I was younger, everyone blew the horn when they passed.
They might have known that back then.

i honk occasionally if im doubting someone's presence near me , while reversing. Such as in parking lots, garages, crowded streets in New Orleans.

in the 11 years i have been driving, no accidents, unticketed in over 7 years(Thank God) and starting next month, my insurance goes down because of my good driving record...Hell yeah, extra $17 in savings!!!

lol..my first couple years driving, i had my fair share plus alot more. Not including the 7-8 that was cleared by a cop buddy.

I was actually let go in Gonzales before, the gas stations across the road from the TAnger, cop let me go for loud music.

best bet ive learned my lesson from all the tickets, clases, pre-trial interventions,-----hell my first student loan in college was to pay off 1100 dollars worth of juvenile wrecklessnes. that being said, i am alot more safer and responsible driver now, seeing first hand someone you love die in a car wreck.....will change many people's driving habits

You are supposed to give one long blast before a boat departs the dock also.

And this is also a reason, I carry a loaded handgun in my truck. Also a reason why I have never gotten in a wreck. Some laws are re tarded.

I'm confused...What does a blast of the horn, a loaded hand gun and no wrecks have to do with one another?
