Stopped at Big Alabama Bayou for a couple hours on the way home this morning. Had not fished there since the flood when they closed it off. Water was very low but clear, most of the structure I'm used to fishing was out of the water. Caught a few bass and good ole Choupic. Had the section of bayou to myself this morning, only a couple of squirrel hunters maybe 10 shots fired.

![]() I fish the part of it in the Sherburne Refuge from the Whiskey bay exit. Very remote, gotta travel down some gravel roads to get to it. |

Long drive to get there from Lake Charles.
Takes about 1.5 hours just to get to the I-10 exit. Then another 20 minute drive on gravel roads. Yes, it is pretty when you are on the water. I would not recommend going now due to the very low water, wait until April and it should be good fishing. The water is probably 6' to 8' lower than what is shown in the picture. Thanks for the info, I like to try out new places for a little change of scenery... Still planning on a trip out of Kerns as soon as schedules allow...
