Made a trip with three friends today to BL. I have been keeping up with all of you guys great reports and trying to learn as much as possible. As I put the boat in the water this morning at 6:10 I was confident that we would be able to boat a good mess of trout. I have been paying attention to the baits from the reports, the tides, and as much about locations as I could. I started at the old jetties then hit the west cove then made the long trip up to Turner's Bay and fished around the Bay as well as the island in the middle.
Ended the day with a BIG FAT GOOSE EGG! After putting this much preperation and effort into a fishing trip a day like this is very dicouraging. The water was beautiful everywhere except for the South East side of the Lake, Not sure what I am doing wrong in the lake but a day like this makes me look forward to offshore fishing season that much more. Glad everyone else on here had a good day on the water. I know a bad day fishing is better than a good day in the office, and I am grateful that I was able to experience the outdoors with good friends today. As always thanks for all the reports and advice. Wish I had a box shot to show but not today. |

No I was in a Mako with a red T-top #1: Yes I agree. We started South Because we stayed at a buddies camp in Pecan Island. #2: 1/4 oz jig heads with Skull draggers, Jr. Jerks, and many other combos with different colors. Jig heads I use lead no colors #3: I read that the tide would be falling from 10 am the rest of the afternoon. We were in Turner's Bay by 10. |

#3 Bob and I got in Turners about 0945h this morning and got in on the tail end of the bite. It was like a light switch was flipped at 1030h. We fished until 1430h and only picked up 2~3 more. We even fished by "W" for about an hour and still did no good. |

you have to use 1/8 oz jig heads........and True 1/8oz... True means the hook and jig head weight 1/8oz total..(yes there is a big difference) lot of jig head makers add 1/8oz lead to the hook and don't include the hook weight............ This much makes or breaks Trust me

thats fishing, I'd hire a guide and ask questions while fishing, if you plan on fishing BL frequently it will be worth the money.

W, that is a damn good tip from someone that smokes the trout on a regular basis. Good on you for passing that along!

W, how fast do you need to be working the bait this time of year? Do you let it hit bottom before starting the retrieve of keep it moving as soon as it hits?

when they are feeding it really dont matter but when the water is real cold and the fish are picky.... you will have to slow it down.... most of the time you will barley feel the bite.....This is where lots of people miss fish

From a new angler trying to learn. Why is 1/8 better than 1/4 during this time of year?
