Default Need help with ground hornets

Just talked to my father-n-law and he told me that he was cutting the grass on the road at our blind and he ran over a ground hornets nest. He said there was 100's if not 1000's of hornets and some how by the grace of god he didn't get stung. My question is i don't even know where to begin to get rid of these things, and to be honest with you i really don't even want to handle it myself. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

X2. Dump about gallon in the hole they are coming out of. You can beat them back with wasp spray enough to get up there and find the hole. They HURT WAY WORSE THAN A WASP STING. Good luck

There are 3 nests in the back of the plant where we bushhog. I don't even like to get near em in the tractor with a cab. If you pizz em off enough, they'll probably figure out a way to get in there.

Find the entrance to their underground nest. After dark, when they have all flown in for the night, spray wasp and hornet killer into the hole. Some people say they put a window screen over the hole so they can't fly out and then spray the hole. If they don't all die spray again the next night. I got popped by one Monday while weed eating around a tree. They do hurt worse than a wasp! I have seen where armadillo's dig up a nest and eat the larvae.

Put a black bucket with soapy water or burnt motor oil next to the nest. Supposedly they will fly into the bucket thinking it is the next. Old farmer told me about this, never tried it myself. I've done gas down the hole and thrown a match. Better watch where you are standing though, you'll find out soon enough if there is any more holes connected to the nest.
