Dog Kennel
I am about to start building a kennel for a lab. Any pointers or advice to make it better for the pup? I was thinking of 10x10 with a house and half covered. I want to run water and power for a light or heater.

Mine is on a 12' x 12' raised slab fully covered roof 6' tall. Have a dog house inside that with a heat lamp. Hurricane fence around slab, connected to square tubing frame attached to slab. Put you a faucet right at the pen to wash da terds off. Definitely run juice for a heat lamp inside the lil dog house. If you are planning on living there for many years, might want to consider the frame work out of SS tubing. Had to change mine out at 20 years even though it was painted. Dog pizz eats up black iron quick.

5x10 kennel is plenty big, suggest leaving the dog house out since they are mosquito magnets. Have patio's for mine to get up off cement (3/4" plywood). You can wrap with tin for wind break and use tin for roof. PM me if you would like to see my setup. If you have septic might want to have kennel close enough to run drain into it, if not, bury a drum and make your own. It will me much nicer washing turds down a drain and have less flys this summer.

Make the concrete slope 2, 3, or even 4x the residential code. Make them turds roll outta there. I like a slick finish but opinions vary on that. Also, seal the concrete, a fresh poured slab will burn a dogs pads up.

I keep pine shavings from the feed store in the lil dog house. Keeps the fleas and skeeters away from the pine smell. Yeah, I have a lil downhill slope on the slab to the side I wash down to. Doesn't hold water. Those dogs love that lil house for weather like this with the lamp.

Make sure and run any power in metal conduit. GFCI outlet. Lab will chew through pvc conduit in a min. water in metal also.

Ive got tin only on half of the roof of my kennel. Leaves a lil sunny spot on them cool mornings for them to lay in. I got my dog one of them insulated dog houses for Christmas. Its real nice. Came with a heated pad you can put in the floor. I was gonna hook it up a few weeks back when it got really cold. Then I read on the directions to only put it in if the weather stays continually below 20 degrees. I put her several blankets and some hay instead, she seems to be liking it quite a bit.
