If you don't have a boat.....
Try Price Lake road of the west edge of the Refuge. They just built new piers for fishing and crabbing. |

Get on Google Earth and find the weirs. There are five, that come to mind. These are definitely the best spots for crabs. Check the reg's and follow rules. Good luck. PM me if need.

Went to Josephs Harbor last Saturday and the water was real muddy once you got a half mile from the ramp and the sargassum was thick thick even at the ramp. We caught some nice crabs though in a couple hours. They are there, lotsa garfish out there too if you are interested in that.

When you head south, go down a couple miles and there is a big canal to the left and there is a weir 100 yards down there on the left, thats where we were and there were lotsa gar rolling. If you continue down that canal a couple miles there is a little inlet to the right and I have seen some trophy gar in there as well. You may do a search on here as I remember someone drew up some maps for the weirs and named all of them. You are not supposed to leave any fish behind if you castnet, but folks do it. The game wardens will sometimes be in plain clothes. Watched a guy last weekend purposely hook an alligator and actually got the thing up to the bank My child enjoyed watching it, so |

went yesterday in boat. First weir to the right. 12 dozen in about 2 hours. Most of that time was spent with me picking out the big ones while my buddy caught. 4-5 at a time off of 1 piece of chicken.

Your first trip to Rockerfeller-go prepared. Make sure you have ALL paperwork, life vests, boat registration, and fishing licenses...everything safety related pertaining to the size of you boat(they love checking fire extinguishers). They don't play around out there. |

i hunted that area a lot this last year and was pretty successful. mainly during teal season though. youll get a lot of spoonys, pintail, teal, some grayduck but seems like most everything else was not to be found.

I usually only go to the concrete dam and mud hole. Don't know much about anywhere else there. Only heard about lsu weir. I've always wondered about all those other wooded structures and dams they have here and there. Are any of those any good for crabs?
