Again I come to the salty Cajuns for dog advise... Probably should just pm Raymond... But anyways. I can't decide wether or not to get my lab fixed. I've surfed the Internet about it and alot of the sites say yes to control overpopulation or whatever.. But I don't know if it will effect a hunting dog in a negative way. I was just wondering what experiences any of you have had. Thanks again

I fixed one female. She was always a good dog, just got slower and slower every year.
She also gained weight, but not much. She looked a lot bigger than she weighed. She got wide across her back and above her hips. But she only gained about 5 lbs. I regretted it. Never fixed another one after that. If you hunt a lot, you want them in tip top shape and with lots of energy. I had mine fixed cause the somehow got bred when I was offshore. I don't know who played that joke on me, but I didn't want it to happen again. She swoled up between splits. I had no dog for the second split. This was when the limit was 10 ducks and I hunted 3 to my blind. Might not need near as much energy with the limits they have now. |

![]() ![]() I personally would wait until the dog is 2 before de-nutting or spaying a working animal. |

not exactley what I meant, there are several nasty genetic problems that will continue to be problems with indiscriminate breeding. Breeding should not take place until a dog is 2 (can't certfy hips), and tested for genetic/eye issues.
