[Jedi Lure Tricks]

The boss man called this mornin about 10 and asked if i wanted to go try big lake. silly question... i packed my gear, met up with him and we were on turner's around 11. the water temp was 60* when we arrived with good water clarity. a few sets of birds were picking even with the wind at about 10-15mph out of the ESE. we set up for a drift across the reef and immediately hooked up. the fish were a bit slow and we would pick up 4-6, 16-20" fish on each pass over the flat. We ended up with a limit in about 2 1/2 hrs. all fish were caught on reaction strike jerk jr's in the opening night and glo colors. the pic attatched is of the owner of the tackle box (the boss man) holding a 2.2lb sandy! man that thing was beast mode for a sandy! not a bad day for a quick trip to big lake in less than ideal conditions.

That's a big ole' fat sandy....Sounds like it was a great day on the water.

yeah it was a good day out there and yeah, thats one of the biggest sandys ive ever seen.

Nice catch....weren't many boats in the bay this eve. We ended up with 11 flounder and 3 throwbacks. Wind was whipping!

nice catch kahunaz! we didnt boat a single flounder.. and yeah, not many boats at all, there were 2 in there when we left at 4. we were in a black/white blazer bay, making drifts on the edge of the channel. i saw 2 guys waded around the island but i didn't see them catch anything and they didn't stay long and i saw one guy runnin around, running everyone's bird's off..

I have seen some huge Sand Trouts out of Venice. Never in Big Lake.

I think there may be two different strains of white/sand trout over there. The ones that are caught offshore are "gulf" or silver seatrout, they seem to be different from the smaller sand trout that stay inland. Also, there are some specks with no spots too.

i've heard of specks with no specks but never seen one... pretty sure thats just a jumbo sandy. fought harder than any of the specks!

i caught this offshore a few years back along with many others....i have always believed that it was a huge sand trout...what do yall think?

sorry no pics.....bushed.....and fish are still on ice.....we targeted flounder on the south end of the lake...but saw a ton of birds working westcove and not 1 boat

Last time I hit the birds in West Cove, I got nothing but undersized Reds. Plenty of them.

I like to compare the fight of the sand trout to that of the Ole Kentucky bass....they just have a little more TUDE! (Small fish syndrome? =) )

You are right.....that is an excellent comparison.
