Anyone have any of these? I am thinking of putting a pair on my 17' Cape Horn. Loaded down, it pushes like a barge before finally planing out. Won't plane at low speeds. Much cheaper than electronic or hydraulic tabs and the reviews are great.

I have them on a marsh rig and they work as advertised... For a "big" boat, I would go with some Lenco's or hydraulic tabs...
Just sayin... Hydro |

Bennett hydraulic is best for bigger boats.
Lenco electric is best for smaller boats. Never heard of any others. I have one of each on 2 different boat. Bennett's are over 25 years old and still going great. Lenco's are on a 2 year old boat and still going great. |

Smart Tabs are automatically adjustable. For instance, for my 17' Cape Horn, a 60lb actuator is recommended. When you take off, the tabs help you plane, but once you are running, the pressure pushes the tabs up. I have read mostly good reports about them and they are only a hundred bucks.

I have a co-worker that had them on his boat, said they worked ok for planing out but if his load was off center he could not adjust for it like you could with electric or hydraulic tabs.

Had some on a 19' Clearwater I had. Helped it plane a little quicker and helped with the porpoising. They don't self adjust as advertised, but you can adjust them out of the water. Once you get them set there isn't much need to fool with them anyway, but you cannot fine tune them like you can with electric or hydraulic ones. They are basically fixed, but adjustable when out of the water if that makes any sense. Not bad for the money.

You will be changing them out. I would go with Lenco electric and then you wont have to worry about it anymore.
