What kind of skinners do y'all use. I bought some from Academy that have the cutters on the side for cutting the skin. They work on fish and me. The rubber grip on the handle is already sliding off. In other words they are junk. I need a good pair so I don't need stitches. Thanks for the help.

To be honest with you I got to where I don't skin the smaller catfish. Anything 8-10lbs and down I fillet with an electric knife and leave about 1/4" of meat on the skin when fillteting them leaves the blue film and blood on the skin. Now the bigger ones I skin. I had the same skinner you are talking about.

I filet all my cats, no matter the size, with electric filet knife. Try it, you'll like it, unless your just wanting the bone in.

Tough to fillet a 50-60 lb catfish with an electric knife.

I use a stiff boning knife instead of a filet knife works like a charm.

I filet all of them with a boning knife. I also leave that last muscle group on the skin to leave the film and blood.

On big ones I use vice grips and filet knife. Skin, filet, cut out blood line and belly. On small ones I use the back side of the filet knife and thumb to grip skin to rip off.

I use regular skinning pliers WITHOUT the rubber grips because the grips always come off. I've tried other pliers but they are all more trouble for me. I like the plain old SS kind with a opening spring. I use a stiff knife to cut the skin and a filet knife to get the meat once my skinning is done. Fast and easy with no wasted meat. I can skin a small catfish in 30 seconds and a big one in less than 3 min. The big ones are a little more work but not if you are set up right. I have a 2X8 board with a spike I hang them on. It's easier to me to hang them and work down from the head. If the skin on the belly tears no problem because I don't like belly meat on a big cat anyway.
