Question guys...What sand eel lures do you like to fish with the best? I've always been a cocahoe/DOA guy...Never fished the Gulps or sand eels before....There are so many manufacturers/types of baits...I like to keep my tackle box condensed as much as possible. Any sand eel lures you may be able to recommend? Also I assume you use the same jig heads that you would the cocahoes? I plan on trying some sand eels on my next outing and trying to prep ahead of time. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks! |

is the presentation sort of like a worm working the bottom??? I'm assuming that is what a sand eel does...I also assume the trout don't like that because they think the eel is looking for eggs in the sand? Don't sleigh me bro, just asking...Never fished this bait before...I like to understand the reasoning behind why a bait works...I wouldn't imagine you would fish this like a cocahoe, swimming....although I am often wrong...just ask my wife!

The sand eels I use a jig head and bounce it off bottom. Not enough action to swim it (in my opinion) I prefer something with a little more tail action. You can use a weightless hook and use it as a jerkbait. Thats my favorite method.

Yes, you swim it. Trout eggs don't go to the bottom.

Glow or avacado green stingray grub. Work it fast over reefs. They last several fish and cheap.

That's what I consider "swimming" a bait.

Nortons have a ton of action. And I'm not talkn bout the jrs. A lot of the other "Sandeel" baits are like throwing & retrieving a stick

I use the sand eel jrs but its just my preference for swimming a bait(which to me is a steady retrieve) I like a curl tail grub or cocahoe minnow. Using the eels as a jerk bait they have a ton of action....

Man...Guys thanks for the expert info...I really appreciate it....I'm sure when the trout are on, it don't matter, just wet and they bite...I'm hoping to get bit when they may be a little finicky...something to slow down in the strike zone...This should do the trick! a little pop pop settle should stir a reaction bite...I'm hoping...Will give her a go!

Bounce that thing off the bottom and they will probably hit it on the fall. I caught some really nice trout the other day on Sabine Lake using a glow jerk jr while 3 guys were throwing live shrimp under a cork right next to me.
