I picked up a 2005 24' Skeeter ZX24 bay boat on Friday. Everything seemed fine when I picked it up. I took it out today for the first time and have water coming into the boat from the two drains in the rear of the boat when it is in reverse. Once you take it out of reverse the water disappears. I am guessing that somehow it is ending up in the hull because the bilge is kicking on. Does anyone have any ideas? I took a video today to show you what is happening.

The scuppers for the self bailing hull ...possibly the flap or ball stays in the open position when going in reverse

Can't see the video but I suspect Pox is correct. But, the water should not be going to the bilge. You can get some plugs in the drains if you wish.

Yep.....what Pox said. They may have some trash in them keeping them from closing or they are just old and need changing.

It is a self bailing hull so it is draining back where it came from not going into the bilge. You should have a drain hole in the back of he transom on both sides. Covering the hole should be some sort of flap (ping pong type ball in a plastic tube or just a small piece of rubber). Replace a you should be good to go.

Thanks everyone. That seems to be the issue. I went out side and stuck my fingers through scupper and felt the old flaps stuck inside. I was able to pull one out and the other one broke off. I will look to replace them. I just can't figure out how the water is getting into the bilge or if it is related to this issue. I can only assume, but it doesn't make sense.
Should the drains be below the waterline? If so, they are well below the water line. ![]() |

My issue was the drain hoses on the scupper were cracked. I changes them out and no more water in the hull. Maybe check that out as well.

You can get some plugs to put in there if you wish. I know Jerry's carries some that fit, but would think any boat dealer would have them.
