I got home from camping Sunday and had at least 50 dead crawfish in the drive way. Later that afternoon I cut the grass and they must have had a couple hundred dead crawfish in the yard. Well last night I went check the deer camera in the back by the pond and noticed this awful smell. I started investigating and they had thousands of dead crawfish in the swamp behind the pond. Never recall seeing this many dead crawfish before. Has anyone else noticed it where they live or know what could be causing it?

Could be any kind of herbicide or pesticide you sprayed your lawn with recently. Also if you added lime or fertilizer recently.

Low oxygen levels, in water, kinda like "red tide". The ones that you found in your yard were lucky enough to leave, but couldn't find any water. This happens this time of year in shallow water marshes or ponds, due to the hot temperatures. |

Heat levels have killed them faster than they can bury themselves. No worries - no black helicopters - no pesticides - just plain old hot!!
