If the tide is high you don't need to get your feet wet....low tide you will have to go out a little.

Caught reds and a few flounder right in the surf outside the condo we were staying in. Bite was good in the am until about 9-10. It was high tide in the am btw. Used dead shrimp on bottom. 3/4 oz sinker at bottom of line and hook tied approx 1.5 ft above sinker. I'd give that a try first before going to the fishing pier. They do however catch fish from the pier

You can wade into Little lagoon from the pass. There is a small park next to the bridge with parking. I have seen folks wade a pretty good ways into the lagoon. I have launched my yak there, paddled into the lagoon and caught some very nice trout.

We went surf fishing for the first time last weekend. We would wade out knee deep to waste deep then cast. We used cut mullet on the bottom with a Carolina rig. We caught 3 big reds that morning and 3 big ones later in the afternoon. The bite fizzled out during mid-day. We were close to Holly Beach. Not sure where that is in relation to where you'll be but that's all the info I have. Good luck to you.
