Fished day 1 today of my once a year trip to BL. I tried for flounder by 4 corner of old river and nothing. Fish were probably there but my skill level is low. Made a run to grand weir and caught birds working, caught lot of dinks but no keepers. Not enough shrimp at weirs worth working that hard for and not gonna fight the boats to try for reds at weirs. Day 1 of 6 and not a keeper. Rain tomorrow but I have 5 days left. Any advice would help. Reds, trout or flounder. My Dad will fish with me Thursday (weather permitting) and Friday. He is 82 and was hoping to get him on some fish. I see him about once a year so I need to make his 2 days memorable.
Thanks |

Sorry to be a buzzkill buddy, but if I were in your shoes right now, I'd hire a guide. There's a good thread right now with several good guides listed. These guys are really good. They do it for a living. It's late notice but if they are booked, they are also really good about finding a guide buddy that's not booked. Good luck to you and your dad. Give us a report.

You don't have to fight the other boats in the marsh to get on some reds and flounder. Go through the gate and head east, beat the banks with some gulp tipped with market shrimp. I only fish back there when the wind gets nasty like it will for the next couple days. Bumpy ride to get to the marsh but once there it's protected so you can still make a nice day on the water. Good luck.

Thanks to all for such quick advice. I am in a 21 ft center console with 150 HP. Hull is not perfect for big waves. I am staying at a camp in Joe's Cove, tomorrow weather looks bad but may be able to do something close. After tomorrow, weather should be good enough to go anywhere.

I agree, I am sitting outside facing the wind and wishing I could fish. I should sleep in and know I can't fish but like a kid in a candy store, I cant sleep. I guess I could throw net some finger mullet in the canal in front of the camp, there are tons of them, that might feel like fishing.
