I need to make sure i am doing this right before i get in the woods and start a trek in the wrong direction, i am internet scouting on google earth and trying to save the gps coordinates into my handheld, my issue is that the coordinates on google earth are numbered a little different than the way i can enter them on my gps, i think i am doing it right but i want to make sure


on google earth i am getting coordinates of 32* 11'27.24"n x 91* 25'38.54"w

on my gps i can't enter them just like that so i put it as close as i can 32*11.272n x 091*25.385w

now i have some other waypoints already marked that were put in on location and using them for comparison it seems that i am close to my mark where i need to be, can some one let me know if this is right or if not how i am supposed to do it, it is an older gps but it is trustworthy, it has saved my backside several times

google earth uses WGS84 datum, set your gps to this setting,the use degrees decimal seconds, for lat/long to match the format of the lat/lon. If you dont use wgs84 your position will be off

If you are not familar with converting the numbers, it would be much easier to change the setting on your to GPS.

On the GPS menue, go into settings and look for something like WGS84 and change your setting. After making this change, you will be able to enter the numbers from Google Earth.

i did this and the numbers still look the same as before

It is very easy to do with a cailculator's degree minute second feature, but here is a website for easy conversion. It shows you the different forms of ways you can type it in.

If your gps only has degrees minutes, the conversion would be

32°11.45400'
091°25.64233'

You can change the way the coordinates are displayed in Google earth as well. Just go to tools, options, and you can change how your points are displayed there.
