This past weekend I was working out of the ports in Galveston and observed some interesting fishermen jigging for flounder. It made me appreciate how much water we have access to here in Louisiana and how at least most of us know how to utilize a trolling motor.
Over the course of 2 days I observed 4 very specific spots in two boat slips that were fished 24/7 by different groups of boats. Each of these spots were literally the same 20' radius. Probably 8/10 boats would pull up with the big motor, THROW out the anchor, and drop lines....and maybe caught 1 fish after an hour. Most of the time they would idle around in a few circles in the boat slip before deciding where to drop anchor. I even saw some guys crank up the outboard and fish for 20 minutes with the motor running before they headed out! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Dumb Texans can't run a trolling motor or catch fish. Everybody knows that.

Reason they hire so many La guides to show them how to catch fish

Not trying to defend the idiots you encounter on the water these days, and it doesn't matter if you're in Tx or La, there's plenty of those guys to go around. You were probably looking at the Galveston yacht basin or one of the industrial slips on the south side of the Galveston channel. Those slips tend to be pretty deep, and if you are only targeting flounder it really doesn't matter what you do. You're not going to spook a flounder off the bottom in 20ft of water unless your anchor lands on his head.
I have done a lot of wading for flounder and I couldn't tell you how many flounder I've caught casting into another waders foot prints. When they are in there thick during the run, they will actually settle into the boot tracks to bury themselves. I have also gigged flounder one at a time, that were within inches of each other and never disturbed the next flounder. An old fisherman told me one time that a flounder is the dumbest fish in the sea. He said that comes from them eating their own s**t because God put their a**hole too close to their mouth. That may be true when it comes to being a dumb fish but if it has anything to do with how good they taste, he knew exactly what he was doing. |

It happens all over the place. I've bank fished and pier fished from Brownsville to Pensacola, fished from a boat from Galveston to Venice, and people everywhere get all up in your bubble.
Pot licking for game and fish (or anything for that matter) has gone on since the beginning of man. Ever seen the same type of behavior during the at a store during Christmas shopping days? Ever been to a concert and seen people shove for prime position? Ever driven in traffic and get people easing you over just to gain a position? How bout a busy parking lot with a good spot open and 3 drivers see it? Or a football game while going in through the gate or trying to grab some food? Rides at a theme park? Airport security or boarding? People are people, and the only thing you can change is how you handle them... |

Had a douche bag arguing with my 15 year old son and a friend last weekend. We have a few stands out on a public land. It's not a WMA it's just state owned land. My son was going to fill the feeder and check things out. Some jerk stopped him and told he couldn't go in there because his nephew was hunting in there my son said Mr. I damn sure can its public land. He went to the feeder and there was a guy in my stand! My son told him hey this is our stand the guy threatened him my son said screw you and took down the feeder and told the guy if you don't get out of that stand I'm going to call the sheriff! After lots of arguing and fussing my son and his friend left with our feeder and took a picture of the guy and his boat. He said if our stand is gone we are reporting you to the sheriff. There are some sorry SOB's in this world.
What a jerk. Makes you want to just quit hunting. |
