A cousin of mine does metal art with his plasma cutter and auto cad setup. This is one of his pretty cool designs cut from one piece of 1/8 steel. . A modern take on a Passe Par Tout. You can't see it in the pic too well but the saw's teeth are upside down fleur de lis'. Thought i would share. acadiana graphics.

He uses all sorts of different software. Might not be specifically auto cad though. But either way he's spending lots of time on the computer. LOL

Probably a raster to vector converting program. We have one at my dads shop that I use mainly to draw letters to cut out. You can actually scan a picture or copy a picture from online (raster file) and convert it to lines that AutoCad can identify (vector file). Even using this software, that is an extremely time consuming and impressive work of art that takes a boat load of talent. I know I couldn't do it! Lol

Been there done that. It does take a long time depending on what it is you are drawing. That's how I drew my gate at my house. Bad pic, but the only one I have of it.... It's in need of some paint! gate.jpg |

Whats nice is you only have to draw it once. Then you just start cranking them out at $200 a pop.

Correct, you can customize it to just have a bunch of different pics drawn and set them in rotate as needed and send it to the machine as a dxf file. Now I want cutting table. |

Is that a plasma cutter or a water jet? Beautiful work. Does he sell them? How much for something like that?

Plasma cutter. He puts some kind of acid wash on the metal to give it a nice look. He has a website and facebook page. Acadiana Graphics. That piece is $200. He can do anything you can think up all custom.
