freshwater city reds

Ive been easing my way around the bay trying to learn new areas an ive heard a lot about people catching reds around freshwater city. were do people fish? in the intercoastal itself? close to the locks? ive been a couple times but no luck. just used shrimp on the bottom. ive seen reports of cut mullet or live also. jus poking around to see what im doing wrong>

I think it's mostly in the Vermilion Corp area. Used to be owned by Exxon, now someone else bought it.

Almost All the side canals off freshwater bayou are "private". You can catch reds and catfish in freshwater bayou itself, but it isn't as good as in the canals and it's a lot more dangerous. There is a lot of of boat traffic, and if a crew boat doesn't see you while you are fishing the edges of the canal, you are going to be in a bind.

My understanding is that no navigable waterway in Louisiana is legally "private". Correct me if I'm wrong please. You can fish them, you just can't put a foot on shore.

You are corrected! A natural bayou or body of water can not be posted . (Some judges think otherwise.) But any man made canal whether considered navigable or not can be posted.

Yep, stay out of the man made location canals and pipelines. From what i have been told They can be posted.

Yep. Also if someone owned land years ago and that land eroded and now is water that water can be posted. I know. It's horse shine. I'm prolly only saying that cuz I don't own any.

So the canals off of freshwater bayou hold more reds but some are posted. I've always believed if there is a canal an you can get somewhere that is public from goin through it. Then it is considered navigable!

Try the bypass channel on the west side of the locks, be careful because the water is very shallow when aprroaching the sunken weir that dams it off. I get out and fish off of the sunken dam into the bypass channel. Good lucj
