Although the wind wasn't much of a factor onshore, the storms of yesterday and today had us stalking reds in the crystal clean marsh waters of upper Bayou Dularge. With the forecast looking grim, I went to Rouse's and bought 5 lbs of 10-15 count shrimp as that is the only source of fresh shrimp in this area. The plan was shrimp under a cork for both days but that quickly changed when we arrived on location to beautiful and fishy conditions. I quickly busted out the spinner baits and dropped the iPilot. Fish on. The gorgeous backwater reds were biting hot and my customers fought through the grass mats and caught 7 fish pretty quick. Then comes the thunderstorms. They chased us to cover underneath a nearby camp and we had about a 2 hour intermission. Back to the ponds. Well, the fish were still biting and in one more drift we had our limit before noon. Today was no different and we had the reds coming in on the first cast. We caught 10 before the radar lit up like the 4th and ran us back to the dock. Glad to get in a few days of fishing and it looks like tomorrow through the week will be a blowout. At least a few thousand snapper and speckled trout won't get caught this week. LOL.
