Default xpress bay boats

Need some feedback on a 24' xpress bay boat, rigged with Yamaha 150, 4 stroke.
More opinion on the boat than the motor. Have had great experience with Yamaha in the past

Thanks

Nice baot what do you specifically want to know?

I think a 24' with a 150 is just a little under rated.

My dad and I run the 20 foot hyper lift with a f115. I have to say it is the best riding and fishing aluminum boat I have been in. That said do not expect it to ride like a heavier glass boat but it does well. The 115 will push it over 40 loaded. These boats sit higher in the water so they do have a tendency to wind drift easier. The boxes aren't totally waterproof, it does not have auto bilge. That is really some of our only complaints. It has been real good to us so far. We have even put it in big water. My friend runs the 24 footer with a 250 who. He said it is stupid fast and they are very pleased with it. They use it to make the long runs in venice in fishing and hunting season.

My buddy had a 22' with the hyper lift hull and a 150. It either hit high 40's or low 50's. The hyper lift hulls are so smooth. Made a couple offshore trips for specks in choppy water, and the hull rode very well.

Inland bay fishing and close rig fishing
Has anyone had any complaints about the floor in front of the bait well.
Had a guy tell me that his floor would have a tendency to pop when the temperature changes.
As the temperature rises the floor would have a tendency to pop up when stepping off of that spot
Other than that the boat was great

The guys saying 150hp is too low probably aren't considering that the aluminum boats are much lighter than fiberglass. I would put the max rated HP on it if at all possible though.

the floor is a problem in most of the ones I have seen in person. My excel does the same thing but at least excel told me to bring it to the dealer and they would fix it anytime for free. Xpress has terrible customer service IMO and from first hand experience.

When I fished for a large Lafitte Guide service , a few years ago, they had a couple of the then new 24ft bay boats on demo.
They rode terrible, cracked welds and if they were loaded with 4 people, fuel, ice etc, struggled to get up on plane. They had the max rated hp, but I forget what that was.
Oh yeah, they drafted a lot more than any of our glass bay boats, when loaded , making shallow water Redfishing a challenge, to say the least.
We were all offered to purchase them at a ridiculously discounted price, but none were bought as we all thought they were total junk.
Just giving an honest assessment, I would steer well clear.

Default Xpress

Been a owner of a HD Bay 20 with a 115 Yam for 2 years now. Fish it alot in Delacroix area and been to Stone Island and beyond. Burns 4GPH at 4K and 28mph so its very efficient. My floor pops in front of console but not enough to be a problem. Changed out bilge and bait pump and relocated batteries to rear compartment. I'd buy a 22' if it would fit in my slip (too wide)

I have a buddy that just got a 24' express. He's running a 225 SHO Yammi and IMO its enough for that boat. I was highly skeptical when he bought it. Having fished a number of 22' Express bay boats, I was not impressed with the ride or the draft. I will say that his 24' handles the chop better than I thought it would. The hull seems well designed with having enough deadrise to handle the rougher stuff and still being able to not draft a whole lot of water. We had it back in some shallow marsh and it did not draft a whole lot of water. Its light enough for a 70 lb thrust Minn Kota, which moves the boat alright, but I would go with a 80. I like the two jump seats in the back as well. He's had it about six months and no problems as of yet. He is happy with it. I will say that after fishing in the boat a few times, I was impressed with the way it handled and rode. It definitely improved my opinion of Express boats. That being said, I don't think I would get one. But I fish everyday I'm off. He uses the boat 3 or 4 times a month. IMO factory built Aluminum boats don't last. I have had a few and don't plan on owning another aluminum boat unless its a custom built boat like a Scully or Hanko's. I like his boat but I don't think it would be able to take the abuse I put a boat through. I am boat shopping at the moment and haven't even considered them. This is a great boat for someone who has a family or doesn't put a lot of wear and tear on a boat. I am not that kind of person so I guess its all in what you are going to use it for.
