Venice inshore fall fishing

My partner and I are planning on making a trip to Venice this fall to fish for inshore reds and trout and have a few questions, since the area is new to us.

How important are tides for inshore fishing? We normally fish the Cocodrie area and the tides are critical there but when I look at the Venice tide tables I see many days with very small tide ranges (.50 and below).

Would falling tides be best?

Most of the good reports we read make me believe the majority of the good fishing centers around the river and the passes. Is this where we should concentrate our efforts.

If you are fishing in the river itself, what do you do when a large ship or barge comes by?
