Default map of big lake and spots?

well..i'm finally gonna go fishing...i moved back here in mid sept. but i have been busy remodeling my place and just haven't had the time to go fishing..i still don't but i can't take it no more ..i need to catch some fish!.....

since i only have a 18ft aluminum boat i'm thinking turners bay(dont know where it is ) and west cove and maybe the weirs(dont know where there are either lol)....tommorow looks like its gonna be a calm day around 5mph wind with a NE wind in morning and SE in the afternoon....

what i need is some info on some common spots to go with my boat..not asking for any secret spots or anything just somewhere where i can go with my boat and catch some fish. ..also the locations of the ramps to put in for these spots would be great....also which ramp is closest to west cove and turners?

Go South on Nelson Rd. exit all the way to Lincoln Rd.
Take a right until you hit Big Lake Rd.
Take a left down Big Lake Rd. until you see 4 big white tanks on the right.
That is the LNG plant. Right at the South end of the LNG plant area is a
road to the right. There are signs there telling you Cal. Point is down that
road. Go to the end and you will run right into it.
When you launch, go around the fishing dock and follow that route to
Turners Bay where it dumps into the ship channel.

You can get a fishing map from Ship to Shore, Academy or Lake Charles Tackle.
Or you can look here:
http://www.charts.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/11347.shtml

You need to zoom in or out and then grab the map and move around till you get to
where you want to see.

I launched at Hebert Yesterday, hit the second weirs, water coming out of the marsh. We had a four man limit (Red) in 45 minutes. I plan to post the pics, when my buddy email them to me. We did pick up a few specks under the birds, but it was windy.

Default Excellent site

Also try this site:

**********.com/boatlaunches

I plan to hit the bay (VB) this weekend, along with everyone else. Just do not feel like making the long drive to Big Lake. But good luck to you.

A good map to get for Big Lake is put out by HOOK-N-LINE. The store at Cal Point used to sell them. Also, most fising tackle stores sells them..

Hebert - Due to the owner of that site spamming this one, we have disallowed links to it. There's plenty of room on the ole Interweb for multiple sites, but I don't allow non-competitive sites to spam here, much less competitive ones.

That said, I believe a list of boat launches is a great idea, and kudos to them for thinking of it. We'll begin a list here as well if y'all think it would be useful.

no prob shad..just i needed those list of boat launches the night before i was going fishing and they got deleted....yes this site really needs something like a list of boat launches with maybe a map pointing them out if possible....hated to ask for simple things as boat launches or places to fish its just i have only been to big lake fishing once in my life..

i ended up putting in at hebert's landing and going to the second weirs...caught 2 reds at 19 and 21 inches...then the rest of the day nothing ...ran out to the 3rd and 4th weirs and tried to get in line but couldnt wait so we ran to the old jettys and caught sheephead and black drum to have something to tug on our lines.....

well weir 1...was stacked with boats and i didnt feel like trying to add to that mess....went to weir 2 and it was completely empty! i have no idea why...only thing i could guess is that it is narrow and shallow? we anchored up and on the first cast i got a 19" red on a lsu cocahoe...then my buddy got one after a few casts on same lure...then nothing...i was throwing red and white mirrow lures...lsu norton sand eels...white and chartreuse norton sand eels...shrimp on bottom........then after about an hour or so with no bites we ran to 3rd and 4th weirs...but just couldn't stand waiting in line to fish lol i wish the wier was open so we could have went in marsh...

i had fun though...water was smooth and perfect for my lil boat...but i'll prob just run to the catfish locks south of lake arthur next time though if i'm wanting to catch reds.

I agree with "Huntin fool", I would have thought you guys would have limited out on the Reds. I tried VB, looking for a few Specks, but scratched big time. Just was not a good weekend.
