I get to the lake and man it was beautiful make it to my spot and start throwing top water second cast BAM huge blow up hooked em nice red in the boat! fished for a while longer and hook up with more fish now I switch to piping cork and snag myself up on rocks so I troll over to it and wack wack wack trolling motor his rocks and I sheer my pin! no big deal head to the truck and replace with a kit I keep now back on the water again being careful of the rocks this time! I catch a few more flounder and reds and the go to switch spots crank big motor and just turns over but nothing firing well I start messing with it and bust my in line fuel filter! now I'm done! so I troll towards the truck and slow going but hey beats paddling them half way there I kill my batteries of course! (was pretty far out and against the wind) now I'm dead in the water for a while finally a guy pulls up and tows me back! now I'm super grumpy cause I just got this motor running right and it's crapped on me! well long story short I get it loaded on the trailer and pull it out and pack everything up! I go to get in my truck to leave and as I go to sit down I notice something red hanging from me! looks like a wire! I look down and realize exactly what it was! NOW Y'ALL CAN CALL ME A TRUE DUMB ARSE!! yep you guessed it! MY FREAKING KILL SWITCH WAS STILL ATTACHED TO MY PANTS!!!! I was running in the marsh this weekend and the push pole goes zinging by and grabs the kill switch lanyard. Why those lanyards don't float is beyond me. Ended up using a zip tie and heading back to the truck.

Already done that. Bought a universal kit from Wallyworld and made a paracord lanyard for my wrist. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1411620620.462828.jpg |

Don't mean to laugh at a man when he's down, but that is some funny stuff. Chalk it up to 2 lessons learned today... Anybody can be a dumb arse on any given day; and there are still good people out there to help someone in need. Better luck next time bubba!

Lol. Great story. I have had something similar happen. Coming down a bayou middle of nowhere and my motor just falls on its face in a hard turn. Nearly threw me out lol. I cranked, pulled cowling, fuel filter, tapped carbs you name it. Ran battery down. Pulled troll motor battery and crank more. It was nearly dead when I realized my kill switch had tripped. The worst and best feeling all at one time lol.

Lol. Like said. Worst and best feeling at the same time. Pissed because you could still be fishing and relieved your motor is OK. Gotta laugh it off and keep going lol.

Had a similar experience this summer. We keep a 24' pontoon boat at our lake house in Toledo. I get there one Friday PM and get keys out of shed and begin to crank engine to no avail. Crank, crank. Pump bulb. Check fuel lines. Pull filters. Crank more. Choke the crap out of it. Press the little black button on side of throttle and push it forward. Crank, crank, crank. Cuss. Scratch head. Throw hat. Let it rest cause maybe it's flooded. Grab beer. Wipe sweat from face. Pump bulb. Choke. Crank. Nada. Cuss. Getting dark-enuf for the night.
Next morning: pump bulb, choke, black knob on side of throttle. Crank. Crank. Crank. Cuss. Cuss. Cuss. Neighbor hears me. Walks over and examines situation. Removes cowling. Wiggles all wires. Taps on filters. Taps starter with screwdriver. Wiggles plug wires. Pulls plug wires off, blows on them. Puts back on. Crank. Nada. Choke. Nada. Black knob thingy. Crank. Nada. Cuss. Scratch head. Getting hotter as sun rises higher. Other neighbor hears racket, walks over. Looks in fuel tank. Gas? Check. Wiggles battery cables. Pulls out voltage meter. 12 V ? Check. ( charged battery all night). Spins prop? Taps glass on rpm and fuel gauges. Choke key, crank, black knob thingy. Nada. He cusses. Battery getting weak. Put charger on and turn to starting mode. Crank, crank, choke, black knob, cuss. Nada. 80 YO Step dad comes back in from fishing. Joins the 3 of us. Looks down at red wire hanging from key. Plugs into kill switch. Crank. Vroommmmm! Cuss. Laugh with neighbors! Never forget kill switch now! |

Had a similar situation with the "kill switch". Loaned my 4-wheeler to a friend to hunt one weekend, he cleaned it and left it on the trailer just as I had requested. The next weekend, I get to the lease @ 4 something in the morning and bike wont start! killed battery trying. Went to town and bought a pair of jumper cables and about killed the starter before I realized he had flipped the kill switch on the handlebar! I was fit to be tied!! I still have no idea why honda has that switch on those bikes. Ive never used it on any of the umpteen bikes ive owned.

Been there, my friend. Just this past weekend we were catching bait at a weir, and when we pulled up, the motor sputtered and cut off. Never happened before. So I go to crank it. Absolutely nothing. Seems like something electrical. I've got two buddies who are just dying to fish, and I'm tinkering with the motor (knowing nothing about how to fix what is obviously an electrical problem). I tinker and crank, lather rinse repeat, for about twenty minutes. Then I notice the thing is still in gear from when it stalled. Popped it in neutral, and presto. Felt like a total idiot.

it happens to us all, chalk it up as a learning curve
been in both situations before, the boat and the four wheeler been stranded on the water so many times, i keep all kinds of stuff that "might happen" got tools in the boat, tie wraps extra hose clamps, extra electrical connections, even have a hose splice for in case the inline filter breaks, i just need to put some extra spark plugs in the boat, went to the hunting lease one time, cranked up the four wheeler and started heading down the trail over a hill and about 500 plus yards from the truck the bike killed, cussed and cranked and started pushing the bike back to the truck, how in the world will i get over that hill, then it hit me, turned the fuel switch back on a vrooom, got to finish scouting ![]() ![]() |

towed my neighbor in once, said his battery gave out. couple days later i saw him and asked if he got it running, said yes, asked what it was and he said" if i tell you, i'll have to kill you". i immediatly knew it was in gear.
the reason i knew was that it happened to me about a year before. just didn't dawn on me that he was as dumb as me. |

got one for yall, i purchases a bay boat from family relative, it was only 2 years old-good shape, we test rode it, paid him, brought it to grand isle put it in the water, would not crank, not a sound. check wires and all other useless things like i read, got other relatives polking around nothing, switched batteries- nothing, put it back on the trailer at rented camp, had 2 days to tinker and get madder at it, called previous owner- no help. came home sunday-messed with it again. found out shift lever was barely out of the neutral click position-cranked right up at home! thats what you call one of them 2 days!
