Helped put out 750,000 bass fry on Mermentau River today. Thanks to Johnny Guinn and Dennis Teije for getting WLF to bring them.

I think they put 100,000 on Calcasieu after the hurricane if I remember correctly. Not a lot but I'm sure it helped.

It's a canal off of the lake. A couple blocks from main street in Lake Arthur. I can see my stepdad's shrimp boat in the background.

Yes it's the shrimp boat dock. The dock under the highway 14 bridge was flooded.

I talk to biologist last year and he said that they would not stock in cal because water quality is so poor.

Just going off of what ive seen every single time ive been... Usually looks just like the north end of Calc river.... I wasnt downing the river one bit... just saying that if they wont stock calc bc of water conditions then they shouldnt be able to stock any of the local rivers... bc they are all very much alike. Its political! someone w some stroke wanted it done... it got done.... simple as that.

Water clarity and water quality are not one in the same. When a scientist is referring to water quality, he's talking about the level of contamination in the water. Bayou D'inde is clear as hell, but the worst waterbody in the state as far as contamination.
In terms of water quality, the Mermentau is much worse than the Calcasieu. Back in the mid to late 2000s, there were several reports illustrating the water quality issues of the Mermentau, with every one stating that several if not all segments were not suited to supporting wildlife and fisheries populations. So, I would lean more towards the idea that someone pulled the right strings, unless some major water quality work has been done on the Mermentau in the last 7 years. |

Now, before someone misunderstands, I'm not saying water clarity and water quality are not related. Suspended sediments affect water clarity and water quality. But water quality itself is not the same as water clarity.
I'm just saying that they are not basing their decision on water clarity, but water quality, which is a measure of several pollutants. |
