Hit Rutherford yesterday and saw probably 6 good size gar dead in the canal along the rd. 4/6' gar. The marsh was flooded and flowing into the canal and across the rd in two spots. Just thought it odd and wondering what may have caused that. Any thoughts?

I think I remember from my high shook biology that amphibians and reptiles came from fish. They eventually grew legs. These gar were probably trying to do that and didn't succeed. Takes them millions of years to do it. Strange they all tried at the same time though

Sometimes they try to swim to the "other" side and get stranded on high ground. Instead of turning back, they keep pushing ahead(sound familiar). Actually pretty common during "high' water.

Could be. These were in the canal on the high water side. Who knows? Not a big deal I just thought it odd.

Tons of dead shad down there this weekend, there was a constant flow out of the marsh into west cove.
